30 Lessons Drawn from the Miracles of Jesus – #28

The Miracle of His Resurrection (Matthew 28:1-6): Mediator between God and Us—Our Mediator/Advocate

mediator between God and man

The third miracle lesson from Jesus’ resurrection that we want to discuss concerns His role as the only mediator or advocate between God and us. Jesus, when He rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, not to go sit at the right hand of God and have some milkshakes and smoothies, but to continue His work in another dimension. The Bible says that “God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,” Philippians 2:9-10. This validates Jesus’ promise: “Whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son,” John 14:13, ESV.

You know, a lot of religions have several views about how to approach God. Some even truly believe the lie that many ways lead to God. This is the Bible’s answer to that: “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people…,” 1 Timothy 1:5-6. There is truly only one way to God, and that is through Jesus. This is one of the benefits we have received from the miracle of His resurrection.

The Bible also tells us that Jesus intercedes for us before God (Romans 8:34). It is JESUS, not His mother, Mary, and definitely not any of His apostles. The Bible only lists two persons that pray for us—the Holy Spirit, in our hearts, prays according to God’s will for us through our (worded or wordless) prayers (see Romans 8:26-27); while, Jesus, at the right hand of God, intercedes for us. These prayers include not only requests for our physical needs but also requests for our spiritual needs.

Let me conclude with these words from Apostle John: “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” – 1 John 2:1-2. Indeed, Jesus is the one and only mediator between humans and God. He is the only lawyer up for hire, free of charge. Why not hire His services today?

I was around 5 when, I am strongly convinced, I first heard the distinct voice of God. But, not until I was 11 (2002) did I have a personal encounter with Him. I was in my room that night, about to pray before bed, when I saw a revelation of how filthy my heart was. I didn't argue with God that I was too young to have such amount of filth ('cause I believed I was a 'good boy,' by human standards, at least). I simply cried uncontrollably in brokenness of heart - "The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God" (Psalm 51:17) - and He didn't.

Still crying uncontrollably, I left my room and went to the living room, where my parents were watching the nightly news on TV. After I managed to tell them about the revelation I saw, my sweet mum took me to her room and led me to Christ. I got saved that night. And 6 years later, I discovered my purpose and assignment on earth, which is raising up men and women to be godly, and teaching them the simplicity of Christianity. More than a decade later, I am still fulfilling that purpose to His glory. Hallelujah!
